The worlds largest wind farm became operational yesterday off the coast of Thanet, Kent.

A great day for Chris “Chicken Little” Huhne as the £800 million development started to generate electricity, the champagne corks popped, Huhne grinned like a village idiot and then ruined the whole event by opening his mouth and spinning lies about Green jobs and how developments like these will be good for British jobs.

For every £1 spent in Britain, £4 went abroad to make this wind farm happen, so how exactly is this good for British jobs?

Thanks to the policies of Gordon Brown and Labour there are no companies making wind turbines in Britain anymore, all the turbines for Thanet were made in Denmark, which unless it has moved was in Denmark last time Aardvark looked.

With no industrial capacity to build wind turbines, no money for development and lack of business confidence there is very little chance that, wind farms this side of 10 years going to be anything other than money and jobs pouring out of Britain for countries like Denmark.

If we are really lucky Britain might get to assemble kits made in other countries, like most of our car industry now assembles kits made abroad to get around EU import taxes. Our designers and engineers are mostly gone, instead we get jobs that are just flat pack assembly building some boring Japanese tin box in Swindon.

A few jobs will be created, but the jobs of fitters not the jobs of designers and engineers.

The real sting in the tail is that this £800 million power station requires 100% backup from coal fired and nuclear stations, and then there is that inconvenient problem of the wind turbines sinking in to the sea
